Artist's Comments

Whew... here it is, my entry into [link] ^^; just in the nick of time, too. I only started it like... a couple days ago. Time spent before that was research and planning and procrastinating >_>

Most unlike my usual way of going about things, I put a lot of thought and planning into this. Here is some info on I guess, my thought processes and reasoning behind everything I did for this. If you're interested, read on...

Idea: I looked at many different artworks depicting Justice, paintings, sculptures, etc, and most of them were all variations of a woman holding scales and a sword, in some fashion. I wanted to deviate from that, and thought a more modern twist would be a bit more appropriate/relevant for today. Now, Lady Justice is more of a vigilante, I guess you could say, impartial, unbending.

The tattoos: I did want to include some of the classic symbols that represent justice; the scales and the sword/dagger. The scales both representing the act of weighing before carrying out justice and the balance that is restored once justice has been served. The sword representing the mercilessness of justice itself. It is placed with the hilt in her palm, as her fingers curl toward it, ever ready.

Light: The lighting is harsh, blinding, shining straight down on to the lady Justice. The light shines so brightly to indicate there is no hiding from true justice, it will see you. >_>

Colours: The predominant colour chosen was purple, due the colour purple representing justice (in certain circumstances/cultures).

Lady Justice: She wears no clothes because there is no covering up Justice. Her hair is meant to be a modern-twist nod to the consistently similar hairstyles I'd seen on a lot of depictions of Justice. She is facing away from the viewer to hint at the "blindness" of Justice; she does not see who you are, but she sees your deeds and will restore balance no matter who you are.

Um.. there's probably a bit more, but I think I've said enough about it for now.

Credits: The frame was created by =mamazmeilor especially for this contest. However, I tweaked the colours to fit in with my painting, which I hope is okay. It clashed, otherwise ^^;

I hope you all like this... now I must move on to my next great painting challenge! If only I had more free time to paint...
